Have you ever seen this meme floating around and thought, “yessss!”?
Girl, same. I have always hated my thighs. Even when I was a size Z E R O I thought my thighs were too big. Oh the naivety. Why do we do that, though? Like seriously, as women why do we have so much trouble loving our bodies? It’s almost engrained in us to want to change some part of ourselves.
If there was some kind of scout badge for all the different kinds of diets/fitness programs out there I swear I’d have a vest full. Keto. Paleo. Cleanses. T-25. Whole30. Tracking Macros. Shakes. Pills. You name it, I’ve tried it when it comes to health and fitness. But really, I just want to be on an eat Chick-fil-A everyday and binge Netflix regimen. After many years of cycling through fads (and not having the metabolism of a 15 year old) I’m going back to the ONLY program I’ve ever done that isn’t a fad, actually works, and is sustainable: The FASTer Way to Fat Loss.
Have you heard of it? It has caught some major traction in the last year, so I’m sure several of you have been sitting back watching and wondering. For those of you who aren’t familiar with FWTFL, at its core it’s a total lifestyle. From whole food nutrition to killer workouts (that seriously lean you out), to balancing hormones it is the Juggernaut of wellness programs. The jumping in point is a 6-week online coaching program, and I started my first round in 2017. A blogger I follow had been posting about this fitness program she was doing and sharing how she’d never stuck to any workout regimen before, but that she was really enjoying this one. She shared about how she hated running, but looked forward to the sprints they did to start the week, and I thought, “I could do this!” So I signed up for the February round! In that first round I lost 7 pounds, 10 total inches, and almost two pants sizes, so I signed up for another! More than the weight loss (and smaller clothes!), for the first time ever I felt like I had a well-rounded approach to my health and fitness. I learned a lot about Intermittent Fasting, macronutrients, the dangers of restrictive calorie diets, and why every woman should make weight training a part of her fitness regimen.
FWTFL In A Nutshell
So, how exactly does the FASTer Way to Fat Loss work? Well, it’s a three-fold approach to nutrition made up of: carb cycling, intermittent fasting, and tracking macros. Carb cycling is basically cycling between low and regular carb days to teach your body to burn fat for fuel (instead of carbs). We pair our workouts with where we are in the cycle to maximize fat burn. So think: sprints/HIIT on low carb days, weight training on regular carb days. And, yes, there are rest days built in as well!
The intermittent fasting (IF) component is where most people get hung up. “You mean you don’t eat breakfast?!” No, Susan, we don’t, and, contrary to what you might think, we don’t starve! I’ve never been a big breakfast eater, so this was an easy adaption for me (I was basically already doing it), but this program is all about flexibility, so if you can’t imagine waiting till noon to eat, don’t! Break your fast earlier, around 10 or 11, and ease your way into it. There are no FASTer Way police coming after you!
Tracking macros is probably one of the more important components of the program. Restricting your calorie-intake for long periods of time seriously affects your hormones, and not in a good way. It seems counter-intuitive to some, but the more fat you burn, the more fuel your body needs, so don’t be surprised if you feel like you’re eating more than ever. The weight will fall off!
Now what? Well, a new 6-week round starts Monday, January 14th and I’ll be doing it right alongside you! All you have to do is sign up before registration closes this weekend, and you’ll be added to a Facebook group for accountability. That’s where you’ll get access to the portal with all the workouts and training on how to track your macros.
As many of you know, we have been dealing with infertility for several years now. I started the program to get fit for baby back in 2017, and, full transparency here, I quit later that year. We found out about our move to Greenville in the spring, and the push to get the old house in selling condition coupled with J basically moving to Greenville without me Monday-Friday from June to October coupled with the struggle to get pregnant took a serious toll on me. I completely fell off the wagon in the fall of 2017 and found myself depressed for the first time ever in January of 2018. It took months to unwind the stress and frustration that had been building for so many months. I spent some of 2018 in the gym and eating healthy, but it wasn’t something I was really committed to, meaning I put on more weight than I lost. Last year was spent getting my mental health healthy again. 2019 is the year of getting my physical health healthy again, so starting Monday I’ll be in the FWTFL right alongside you. I’m even putting myself way out there and sharing a picture of my scale! At the highest weight I’ve ever been! Mark my words, this number will change 6 weeks from now! Will yours?
If you’ve been struggling with your weight, over training and damaging your hormones, struggling to lose the weight after baby, or are just tired all the time and facing thyroid issues, I would love for you to get it under control with the FASTer Way! I’ll be hosting a small group for anyone who joins me where we’ll share recipes, encouragement, and tips in addition to the Facebook group that’s a standard part of the program. Let’s make 2019 the year that we actually find our confidence, get healthy, and love ourselves…instead of just resolution-ing about it 😉
